Otemachi Walking Guide — 17 Spots from Imperial Palace Greenery to Sky-High Dining

There are 17 walking spots clustered around Otemachi Station, ranging from cafés and gardens to a museum of the Imperial Collections and restaurants on the top floors of towers. What defines the area is the mix: a 6,000 m² garden facing the Imperial Palace and a 4,000 m² rooftop garden, both free to stroll, sit a short walk from a French dining room with lunch courses from 13,000 yen. A stand selling onigiri and miso soup at 300 yen each keeps the low end just as easy.

Suggested order

Start inside the Otemachi Building (KAITEKI CAFE, SKY LAB, Suikodo), head north to TOKYO TORCH Park and Miso Soup BAR, then turn back toward the palace for Sannomaru Shozokan and Wadakura Fountain Park. From there pass the Palace Hotel, Otemachi One GARDEN and Otemachi Tower, and finish along Marunouchi Naka-dori and Marunouchi Terrace.

A health-minded café run by the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, using traceable ingredients and water filtered through Cleansui purifiers. The KAITEKI vegetable plate with carrot rapée and ratatouille is 1,300 yen with bread and soup. Sofa seats have Wi-Fi and power outlets, and you can refill your own bottle.

A roughly 4,000 m² sky garden on the roof of the same Otemachi Building, next to one of Tokyo's largest rooftop farms. Counter and sofa seating fills with office workers on lunch breaks. Register the Marunouchi Point app and anyone can use it for free.

A wagashi shop two floors below ground in the Otemachi Building. The specialty is smooth koshian bean paste, strained twice, in fresh sweets made from domestic ingredients. Seasonal pieces such as "Biku," topped with a sweetfish of yokan, run 280–300 yen.

A plaza opened in 2021 between Tokiwabashi Tower and the Torch Tower under construction. It partners with municipalities nationwide, including a pond of nishikigoi carp created with Ojiya, Niigata, birthplace of the fish. It is partly reduced for construction from January 2026 and will be redeveloped after the tower opens in 2028.

A lunch stand on the 3rd floor of Tokiwabashi Tower serving onigiri and daily-made miso soup at 300 yen each. Kombu and bonito flakes left from the dashi are simmered into tsukudani and used as fillings, and the rice is Nikomaru shipped directly from an Ehime farm. The café lounge looks out over the Otemachi skyline.

A facility inside the Imperial Palace East Gardens that preserves and displays artworks handed down through the Imperial family. It is the natural place to fold some art into a walk through the greenery.

A fountain park in a corner of the Imperial Palace Outer Garden. It was laid out in 1961 and renewed in 1995 to mark the current Emperor's marriage. The large pond and fountains make it a fitting rest after walking Marunouchi and Otemachi.

At about 6,000 m², one of the largest green spaces in the area, facing the Imperial Palace. Kerria, iris and maple, a waterside zone and shaded tables and chairs fill it, with food trucks on weekday afternoons. The evergreen "Imperial Green" lawn opens weekdays 8:00–17:00; strolling is free.

Italian dining on the 39th floor of Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi, at the same 1-2-1 address. Naples-born artisans work 100% Italian flour into pizza, alongside Tuscan bistecca alla fiorentina, with an outdoor terrace over the city. A weekday-only three-course lunch is 6,800 yen.

A café-restaurant in Otemori on the second basement of Otemachi Tower, its name from "terminal" plus "meals." The room is styled like a library with old books and retro posters, and the signature is thick chewy pasta in two versions, red tomato and white oil. Lunch sets with salad are 1,480 yen, lunch drinks from 250 yen.

Italian on the 33rd floor of Aman Tokyo, high in the same Otemachi Tower. The name means "harvest" in Latin, and chef Masakazu Hiraki, who trained 17 years in Italy, supervises the kitchen. Dishes such as sea urchin with bottarga of Mie-caught Spanish mackerel come with views of Mt. Fuji and the Shinjuku skyline.

A neo-Sichuan bar on the 1st floor of Marunouchi Terrace. Chef Yoshiki Igeta of Michelin-listed Hyoki in Hiroo supervises, blending Sichuan tradition with French technique; the 1,738 yen mapo tofu can be adjusted for heat. Tsingtao beer, Chinese-spirit highballs and natural wine are poured, and the terrace is pet-friendly.

The only complex entertainment venue in the Marunouchi area. The 1st floor is an American diner with a bar counter, the 2nd an amusement-and-dining space with darts and private karaoke rooms. Original craft beer starts at 825 yen and the beef-tongue-patty super cheeseburger is 2,299 yen, with dinner last orders at 3:30 the next morning.
