ZOROZORO in three lines

  • A Japanese platform where people share walking spots and walking routes.
  • Browsing, posting and the iPhone app are all free, and you don't need an account just to look around.
  • Available in Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). Most spots are currently in Tokyo and Kanagawa.

For travelers

Can I use ZOROZORO in English?

Yes. ZOROZORO is available in five languages: Japanese, English, Korean, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Switch languages from the menu or the "Language" selector at the bottom of every page. Spot and route names and descriptions and the area walking guides are available in each language (some of the translation is done by AI). Articles and walk posts written by users are shown in the language they were written in, which is mostly Japanese.

How far is each spot from the station?

Most spot pages show the walking time from the nearest station. It is an estimate based on the straight-line distance from the station multiplied by 1.3, at a walking speed of 80 m per minute. If no time is shown, we don't have that data yet.

Can I pay by credit card?

Payment methods appear on a spot page only when they have been reported for that spot. If none are listed, it means unknown, not cash only.

Are opening hours listed?

Spot pages show opening hours and regular closing days where we have them, in Japan time (JST). On the spot search page you can also choose "Open now only" to see just the spots that are open right now. If no hours are shown, please check the venue's official site.

Where should I start for my first walk in Tokyo?

Start with the area walking guides, organized by station. There are guides for areas such as Tokyo Station, Asakusa, Shibuya, Daikanyama and Kiyosumi-Shirakawa, plus Kamakura for a day trip, each with a suggested order and walking times from the station. To see all spots in Tokyo at once, open All walking spots in Tokyo.

About ZOROZORO

What is ZOROZORO?

ZOROZORO is a Japanese platform where people share walking spots and walking routes. Map apps answer "how do I get there?"; ZOROZORO answers the question that comes before it: "where should I go?" You can use it on the web (zorozoro.jp) and in the iPhone app.

How is ZOROZORO different from Google Maps?

Map apps are tools for people who already know where they are going; ZOROZORO is for people still deciding. You find walking spots by mood words, area or walking time from the station, save them, and link several into a walking route. Once you have picked a destination, your usual map app can handle the directions.

Does ZOROZORO cost anything?

No, ZOROZORO is free. Signing up, searching and posting spots and routes, recording walks and downloading the iPhone app are all free. The only paid service is for shops and businesses that place promotions or coupons (Advertising and partnerships).

Do I need an account?

Not for browsing. Anyone can read spots, routes, area guides, articles and the feed without logging in. You need to log in to add spots, save places, record or post walks, and create walk plans. You can sign up with an email address, Google or LINE.

Which areas of Japan are covered?

Mostly Tokyo and Kanagawa for now. As of October 19, 2026, ZOROZORO lists 1,064 public spots, of which 829 are in Tokyo and 232 in Kanagawa, plus 91 area walking guides organized by station. Spots can be added anywhere in Japan, so please add places from areas that are not covered yet.

Who runs ZOROZORO?

ZOROZORO is run by Shun Mochitani as a sole proprietorship in Japan and launched in July 2026. See the operator page for details.

Finding spots and routes

I have no destination in mind. How do I find one?

Try the destination roulette on the top page. Enter a station or area and spin, and it picks one spot near there (leave it blank to pick from all spots). You can also search by mood words such as "relaxed", "retro" or "riverside" with the Feeling search on the spot search page, or read the area walking guides, which suggest a route for each station area.

How can I search for spots?

On the spot search page you can filter by keyword (station or spot name), area (prefecture) and conditions (budget, tags, open now, and walking minutes from your current location). With "Draw to search" you trace an area on the map with your finger and see only the spots inside it. Results can be shown as a list or on a map.

What is a walking route?

A walking route (course) links several spots in the order you visit them. Each route page shows the shape of the route, an estimated duration and the weather forecast for the area (from the Japan Meteorological Agency), and it can include sections by bus or train. Anyone with an account can create a route, starting from a single spot.

What are the area walking guides?

Each guide introduces one station area by linking its registered spots in a suggested walking order. Every guide opens with "Quick facts" calculated automatically from the database: the number of spots, the average walking minutes from the station, how many spots list opening hours, and exhibitions on now. The text is written with AI from the registered spot data, so please check each spot page before you go.

Can I find a good place to meet friends?

Yes. Enter everyone's starting point in the Midpoint finder and it suggests three stations near the middle that are easy for everyone to reach. You can see walking spots around each station and create a walk plan from there. It works without logging in.

Where should I go on a rainy day?

Museums and galleries are a good choice. Their spot pages list the exhibitions on now with dates (collected from each museum's official site), and the top page also shows a selection of current exhibitions.

How accurate is the information?

Spot information comes from user posts and from open data such as OpenStreetMap that is collected automatically. Opening hours, closing days and prices can change, so please also check the official information before you go. If you find a mistake, you can suggest a correction with "Edit info" on the spot page.

Recording and sharing walks

What is "Today's Walk"?

Today's Walk lets you keep one photo and a short note from each day's walk. The more days in a row you post, the longer your streak. You choose who can see each post (everyone, followers only, or just you) and whether to add a location (none, your current location, or a station or area). Post from Today's Walk after logging in.

Can I record the route I walk?

Yes. Record a Walk uses your location to record the path, distance and time of your walk (you need to log in). When recording in a browser, keep the page open while you walk. The iPhone app keeps recording even with the screen off.

Can I save places I want to visit?

Yes. Tap "Save to list" on a spot page and it goes into your saved lists. You can make as many lists as you like and name them, for example "This weekend" or "Cafes".

Can I plan a walk with friends?

Yes. In Walk plans, set a date and a title, then share the link with your friends. Anyone with the link can say "I want to join", and the people joining can edit the time and place together or build a route by adding spots. You get a reminder notification on the day.

Can my partner and I keep memories just for the two of us?

Yes. The Couple feature gives you and your partner a private space for memories of places you visited together (photos and videos) and places you want to go. You can also make plans and routes as a couple. Nobody else can see them unless you create a share link for a memory.

What are the station boards?

Each train station has its own channel where people casually share what is going on around it. On the Boards page you can look up a station by name.

Adding spots and posting

Can I add a place that isn't listed?

Yes. Anyone with an account can add a spot. You can set the location from a photo's location data, or long-press the map on the spot search page (right-click on a computer) to add a spot at that point. Be the first to share a favorite place nobody has listed yet.

Can I correct a spot someone else added?

Yes. Use "Edit info" on the spot page to suggest a change. Edits by anyone other than the person who added the spot are applied after review by the ZOROZORO team, and every change is kept in the "Edit history".

Can I write articles and reviews?

Yes. You can write freely about walking and city life in Articles, and post reviews (a rating and a comment) from any spot page. Spots with three or more reviews also show an AI-written summary of what reviewers say.

What kind of photos can I post?

Please post photos you took yourself or have permission to publish. Photos of places where photography or publishing is prohibited, and photos that violate other people's portrait rights or privacy, are not allowed. See the Community Guidelines for details. Some spots also show photos published under licenses such as Creative Commons, credited to the photographer.

What should I do if I find an inappropriate post?

Please use the "Report" button on the post's page. The ZOROZORO team reviews every report, removes posts that break the guidelines and suspends accounts for serious cases. In the iPhone app you can also hide a user you don't want to see. You can contact us through the contact page as well.

Account and app

How can I log in?

On the web you can log in with an email address and password, a Google account or LINE. The iPhone app also supports Sign in with Apple.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes, the iPhone app is free on the App Store. The app is handy for recording walks (it keeps recording with the screen off) and for push notifications about likes, comments and walk plans. An Android version is in preparation; on Android, the web version works in your browser.

What notifications will I get?

ZOROZORO notifies you when someone follows you, when your posts get likes or comments, when someone asks to join or changes one of your walk plans, and on the day of a plan. On the web you can see them on the Notifications page, and the iPhone app also sends push notifications.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. In the iPhone app, go to Settings and choose "Delete account". All your data, including posts, walk records and follows, is deleted and cannot be restored. If you would like to delete your account from the web, please contact us through the contact page.

Privacy and safety

What is my location used for?

ZOROZORO only gets your location when you allow it on your device or browser, and uses it to show nearby spots, search by walking minutes from where you are, and record walks. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings. See the Privacy Policy for details (in Japanese).

Can I post walks without revealing where I live?

Yes. Set a privacy zone around your home in your profile on the web, and Today's Walk posts taken inside it are saved without location data, including posts made before you set the zone. You can also post with the location set to none or to a station or area.

Can I control who sees my posts?

Yes. Each Today's Walk post can be visible to everyone, to followers only, or just to you. Walk plans can be set so that only people with the link can see them, and they are then not listed publicly. The starting points you enter in a plan are shown only to the members of that plan.

For shops and businesses

How do I list my shop or correct its information?

Anyone with an account can add it as a spot. If it is already listed, use "Edit info" on the spot page to suggest corrections such as opening hours. For official information or listing inquiries, see Advertising and partnerships.

Can I run ads or coupons?

Yes. Promotions and coupons appear on spot pages, station boards and the feed, and you can submit and pay for them yourself from the advertiser dashboard (each one is reviewed by the ZOROZORO team). Payment is by credit card through Stripe. For pricing or partnerships, see Advertising and partnerships.
