A shrine standing just east of the main hall of Sensoji Temple, known as "Sanja-sama". It enshrines three men said to have been involved in the founding of Sensoji: Haji no Manakachi, Hinokuma no Hamanari and Hinokuma no Takenari. The present shrine buildings were erected in 1649 (Keian 2) through a donation by Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun, and are a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The Sanja Matsuri held every May is this shrine's festival.
