Japan's oldest amusement park, opened in 1853 (Kaei 6) as a botanical garden called Hanayashiki. On a small site west of Sensoji Temple facing Hanayashiki-dori, rides that still carry the air of the Showa era are packed in tightly, starting with a roller coaster built in 1953. Even just glancing in from the street as you walk around Asakusa brings on a nostalgic feeling.
