One of the first parks established in Japan, opened in 1873 (Meiji 6), Asukayama Park was developed by Tokugawa Yoshimune, the 8th shogun of the Edo shogunate, who planted cherry trees during the Kyoho era to create a cherry-blossom viewing spot for commoners. Just steps from Asukayama Station, the spacious grounds are home to several museums, including the Shibusawa Memorial Museum.
