A shrine said to have been founded in 1063 (Kohei 6), when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Minamoto no Yoshiie enshrined the deity of Iwashimizu Hachimangu here; it was originally called Imado Hachiman. Tradition holds that this is the birthplace of the maneki-neko beckoning cat, and cat statues stand in the precincts. There is also a monument marking the spot said to be where Okita Soji of the Shinsengumi died. An easy stop on a walk along the Sumida River.
