A park in Akasaka, Minato Ward, adjoining Tokyo Midtown. In the Edo period this area was the site of the lower residence of the Mori family of the Choshu domain, and a Japanese garden centered on a pond that carries on the look of that garden now spreads through the grounds. Walking along the water, you pass through calm scenery that is hard to believe lies right beside a district of office towers. There is also a lawn area, making it a good spot to rest when you get tired from walking.
A nature park spreading across the foothills of the Yatsugatake mountains. There is an outdoor stage on the grounds, which in summer becomes the venue for the "Starry Sky Film Festival."
A shaded bench along Uchibori-dori in Otemachi, set in a corner that looks out over the Imperial Palace moat. It is hard to believe you are in the middle of an office district — it is that quiet, with the soft shade of the trees falling across it. When you are a little tired from walking around Marunouchi or the Imperial Palace Outer Garden, this is a place to sit down and rest while taking in the waterside view.
A waterfall in Hinohara Village, selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. It cascades down in four tiers, dropping into the basin at the very bottom. The total drop is about 60 meters, and in winter it freezes over into a wall of ice. You reach it from Musashi-Itsukaichi Station by bus and then on foot along a trail, at the end of a cool walking path through the forest.
A river about 8 km long that flows from Setagaya City through Meguro City and Shinagawa City before emptying into Tokyo Bay. Near Nakameguro Station a promenade runs along the water, and in spring some 800 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees bloom in profusion from both banks, leaning out over the surface of the river. Outside the cherry blossom season, cafés and shops are dotted along the riverside, making this an area to enjoy a stroll through all four seasons.
A facility set among the mountains of Hinohara Village, Tokyo. Reachable from the direction of Okutama Station, it is surrounded by abundant nature that feels like a world apart from central Tokyo. Hinohara is the only village in Tokyo outside its island districts, and here, ringed by gorges and forest, you can spend a quiet while.
A long, narrow greenway built on top of a culverted river. Rows of cherry trees line the path, so you can stroll at a leisurely pace without worrying about cars.
