Kyobashi Walking Guide — 6 Spots Across Film, Art and Antiques

Around Kyobashi Station there are 6 walking spots, ranging from Japan's national film institution to an art-filled office building and an antique street. They all sit within walking distance across Kyobashi 1-chome to 3-chome in Chuo Ward, and cultural facilities alternate with shops — TODA BUILDING, which forms the "Kyobashi Saiku" district together with the neighboring Artizon Museum, and Kotto-dori, lined with some 150 antique dealers. What you can take home spans a wide price range too, from a 5-postcard set at 1,100 yen to a card holder at 14,850 yen.

Suggested order: TODA BUILDING → Postalco Shop → Police Museum → Kyobashi Matsukin → National Film Archive of Japan → Kotto-dori (continuing on toward Nihonbashi).

The Toda Corporation headquarters was reborn in autumn 2024 as an art-filled building and a hub of Kyobashi. It houses APK PUBLIC, which presents works in shared spaces such as Atsuko Mochida's Steps in the atrium, a gallery complex on the 3rd floor, CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO on the 6th floor, and a gallery and bakery cafe on the 1st floor. Together with the neighboring Artizon Museum it forms the "Kyobashi Saiku" district, which makes it a natural starting point. Opening hours and closing days differ by facility and shop.

The only directly operated Tokyo store of this Brooklyn, NY–born brand, on the 1st floor of Kyobashi Edogrand. Leather wallets, stationery and bags with a natural texture fill the shelves. The card holders are 14,850 yen each, with cowhide on the outside and pressed cotton inside. You can also try items out under realistic conditions — putting weights on them or splashing them with water.

A museum run by the Metropolitan Police Department, right next to Kyobashi Station. Police motorcycles, a helicopter and patrol cars that were actually used are on display, and the materials trace the story from the Meiji era, when a modern policing system was established. There are hands-on exhibits for children too, which makes it a good detour on the way to Ginza or Nihonbashi.

Founded in 1931 as a print shop, this store makes goods themed on the history and culture of Kyobashi. Note cards and postcards featuring nishiki-e by Chikashi Okada, an artist of Edo firefighter prints, come as a 5-piece set for 1,100 yen, and the "Marugoto Meguri-cho" goshuin book with a walking map is 3,630 yen. Everything is handmade, so this is the place to stop if you want a memento of the walk.

Japan's only national institution devoted to film, located in Kyobashi 3-chome, Chuo Ward. Besides screenings, it has an exhibition room for film-related materials. If your legs need a rest, watching one film before heading to the next street is a fine way to build the day.

The popular name for Higashi-Naka-dori, which runs from Kyobashi to Nihonbashi. It is one of Japan's leading antique districts, with roughly 150 long-established antique dealers and galleries, and in the Edo period Utagawa Hiroshige lived here. Every year on the weekend before Golden Week, "Tokyo Art & Antiques" is held. It makes a fitting finale as you pass through toward Nihonbashi.

One last tip: Kotto-dori is also walkable from Takaracho Station and Nihonbashi Station, so a one-way route starting at Kyobashi and ending at Nihonbashi works well. Since hours and closing days at TODA BUILDING vary by facility and shop, check ahead if there is something specific you want to see.
