An island at the heart of the Shonan landscape. In the Edo period it was a pilgrimage site for Benzaiten, in the Showa era a honeymoon destination, in the Heisei era a date spot, and in the Reiwa era a stop for inbound tourism — the visitors have changed with each era. It is also an island that came from southern seas some 20 million years ago. It has a yacht harbor, the Sea Candle, and the Iwaya caves.
