Toritsu-Daigaku Walking Guide — Bread, Sweets, and a Bamboo Grove

BREAD PLANT OZ

A bakery and cafe on the first floor of Maison Saint-Cloud at 4-1-19 Yakumo, Meguro Ward. It serves a morning menu, which makes it an easy starting point for a walk. You can also buy bread to carry with you and save it as a snack for the park later. It's the first place to give you a feel for the quiet residential air of the Yakumo area.

Addict au Sucre

A patisserie for baked sweets and cakes at 1-10-6 Yakumo, Meguro Ward. It has been named one of Japan's top 100 sweets shops, and it's fair to call it one of the highlights of this route. Baked sweets travel well, so stopping here mid-walk to secure a gift box is a good move. It's in the same Yakumo area as BREAD PLANT OZ, making the two easy to visit back to back.

Futakawa

At 3-11-19 Minami, Meguro Ward. The shop opened in a building that was once a sushi restaurant, reusing the exterior and shelving as they were, so the structure still carries the memory of its former trade. Its signature dish is pasta with chewy, springy noodles, which has earned the place its reputation. Even just looking at the building as you pass is interesting — a piece of the neighborhood's history left unpainted-over.

Suzume no Oyado Ryokuchi Park

A green space with a bamboo grove and a traditional old house at 3-11-22 Himonya, Meguro Ward. The old house is a designated cultural property of Meguro Ward, open 9:30–16:30 and closed on Mondays. The green space itself is always open and free to enter, so you can drop by without watching the clock. Walking under the bamboo, it's easy to forget you were in a residential neighborhood moments earlier.

Closing tip: Three of the four spots are food-related, so pace your appetite accordingly. If you want to see inside the old house, avoid Mondays and arrive before 16:30. Since the green space is free and always open, the most luxurious finish is to buy bread or baked sweets first and enjoy them under the bamboo.
