Misakiguchi Walking Guide — From the Tuna Port to the Rocky Shore of Jogashima

Around Misakiguchi Station there are 8 walking spots, ranging from a fishing port and a rocky coast to a bakery and a local diner. This is the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula, and the further south you go from the station, the closer the town of Misaki and the sea become, until the walk ends on the rocky shore of Jogashima. Misaki Fishing Port, known for its tuna landings, and Uma-no-se Domon, an arch carved out by wave erosion, are the two anchors of this route.

Super Freaks

A shop in Koajiro (971-2 Koajiro, Misaki-machi, Miura City). It is open from 10:00 until sunset — a way of marking time that matches this stretch of coast. It sits along the way as you head down from the station toward Jogashima, which makes it an easy starting point.

3204 Bread & Gelato

A bread and gelato shop in Misaki, at 3-12-10 Misaki, Miura City. It is open 11:00–17:30 on Saturdays and Sundays, so on a weekend walk it is worth timing your midday around it. Buy bread here and eat it later at the port or by the sea, and the rest of the walk gets lighter.

Kii

A shop in Misaki at 2-7-2 Misaki, Miura City. It stands in the town between 3204 and the fishing port, so stopping in costs you almost no detour. Worth a look while you wander the back streets of Misaki.

Misaki Fishing Port

A fishing port at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula, known for its tuna landings. Around the port you will find the Chinese diner "Botan" and the canvas bag shop "Watts," so food and shopping are clustered in the same few blocks. This is the center of the walk and a natural place to rest before crossing to Jogashima.

Misakikan Honten

An inn near Misaki Port (5-2-9 Misaki, Miura City). Because it stands just off the fishing port, it becomes the obvious option if you decide to stretch a day walk into an overnight stay. It also works as a landmark for the port-town stretch of the route.

Jogashima

An island floating off the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula. Along its southern shore stands Uma-no-se Domon, an arch formed by wave erosion, and you can walk the rocky shoreline. This is where a town walk turns into a walk through nature, and it is the highlight of the day.

Akabane Coast

A rocky coast on the southern shore of Jogashima. It lies partway along the shoreline walk that continues to Uma-no-se Domon, so you will almost certainly pass it if you walk the island's south side. The ground is rocky, so take your time and watch your footing.

Maruyoshi Shokudo

A diner in Miyakawa-cho, Miura (11-30 Miyakawa-cho, Miura City). On the way back from Jogashima toward the station, a small detour to the Miyakawa-cho side makes it your closing meal. After the sea and the rocks, a diner is enough of an ending on its own.

One last tip: of the 8 spots, only two have listed hours — 3204 Bread & Gelato (11:00–17:30 on Saturdays and Sundays) and Super Freaks (10:00 until sunset). The shore on Jogashima is rocky, so wear shoes you can walk in and cross over while it is still light.
